Good quality air is something that used to be widely available to most people. Nowadays, with ever rising pollution not just in densely populated areas but pretty much everywhere else too, it is no longer so. The need for better air, free of contaminants, bacteria, fungus and all the other particles that find their way into our homes, is something that is a source of continuous inspiration for us. Thus, today we present three new reviews on products that have to do with improving air quality. More specifically, in this article we will focus on three different air purifiers made by Therapure. We will begin by describing the filter technology developed by Therapure, which is integrated in all three air purifiers. Then, we will continue with the individual Therapure air purifier reviews, where we outline the differences and similarities between the three units, as well as our experiences with using each of them.

All three of the air purifiers we are reviewing today utilize the HEPA air purifier technology. Here is what that means. HEPA stands for ‘high efficiency particulate air’. HEPA technology is used in mechanical air cleaners. The HEPA filters consist of a web of fibers arranged randomly, which are more sparsely arranged than the pores of a membrane-type of filter. However, that does not decrease their efficiency. HEPA filters clean the air from unwanted particles using three different techniques: interception, impaction and diffusion. The techniques vary according to the size of the particle that needs to be removed.

Interception usually works on particles that are bigger than 0.4 microns. Fibers ‘reach out’ to such particles and eliminate them from the air by having the particle stick to the fiber. Impaction also mostly affects particles larger than 0.4 microns. For this technique, air flow is used to direct particles at the filter fibers. Upon collision, the particle is stuck to the fiber and cannot dislodge itself. The last technique, diffusion, targets particles smaller than 0.1 microns. The point with this technique is to keep small particles within the filter until they are captured with interception or impaction. Without diffusion, some particles might slip through the filters, as they are too small to be immediately captured by the fibers of the filter. However, the diffusion action ensures that this does not happen.

As we mentioned, all of our Therapure air purifier reviews are about air purifiers which utilize the HEPA filtering technology. Thus, they are all capable of removing allergens, pollen, dust mites, cigarette smoke, odors, pet hair, dander and mould spores from the air. However, the main difference is to what extent. In other words, each purifier has a different capacity, meaning that it can be 100% successful only for a certain amount of air or equivalently in rooms up to a certain size. This is measured with the clean air delivery rate. It shows the cubic feet of air that can be completely cleaned of a certain particle within one minute. It is one distinguishing characteristic between the three purifiers. For more details, head to the individual reviews.

Envion Therapure TPP240 Permanent HEPA Type Air Purifier

Therapure TPP240

Therapure TPP240

The first of these Therapure air purifier reviews is about the Envion Therapure TPP240 Permanent HEPA Type Air Purifier. It is an air purifier which is powerful enough for medium to large rooms.

Its clean air delivery rate is 132 for pollen, 137 for dust and 155 per smoke, so it is very effective. Its listing price is about $150.

For that amount you get a powerful air purifier which has an energy star certification and which does not require occasional replacement of the filter part. Instead, what you need to do occasionally is to clean the filter.

There is a light indicator which will signal when it is necessary to do that, so in the meantime you do not have to keep track how long it has been since the last clean up or anything like that.

Cleaning the filter is really easy too – you need to remove it from the unit (it pulls out easily) and simply vacuum it with your standard vacuum cleaner. In terms of maintenance, it really does not require much!

Some other features of this air purifier include a 3-speed fan, a UV/VOC on/off button, a 24 hour timer and a digital display that shows a lot of relevant figures. The UV on/off button is for the UV germicidal light which is embedded within the filter to kill all airborne bacteria and germs. It is also useful against toxic fumes from wall paint, carpets and aggressive household cleaning agents. That just adds to the already considerable air cleaning properties of the Envion Therapure TPP240, making it a really powerful air cleanser. There is also an ionizer feature which can be switched on and off separately from the filtrating feature. It is useful for instantly revitalizing the air. All of that is packed in a sleek looking hemispheric compact package – its dimensions are 7.9 x 26.1 x 9.6 inches and it weighs 10.3 pounds. Considering its listing price, we’d say the investment is worth it, since this air purifier does not require any additional costs and it is likely to last a few years at least.

The next one of our Therapure air purifier reviews is about the Envion Therapure TPP440 Permanent HEPA Type Air Purifier. Compared to the Envion Therapure TPP240, this air purifier is more powerful in removing some particles from the air and less powerful for others.

For example, its clean air delivery rates for dust and pollen are 150 and 163 respectively, which is higher than those of the Envion Therapure TPP240, but its clean air delivery rate in terms of cigarette smoke is 108, which is lower.

Thus, it really depends on what kind of contaminants you are dealing with most that will determine which air purifier is better suited for you.

In terms of price, the listing price of the Envion Therapure TPP440 is also about $150, so there is no significant difference there.

In terms of design, both air purifiers look very similar – the color palette is just black – so the preference will be a matter of taste, but for us, the Envion Therapure TPP240 has a slight edge in that department. However, the Envion Therapure TPP440 has a built-in handle that the other air purifier does not have, which could definitely be useful for easier portability. The Envion Therapure TPP440 is slightly more compact and lighter too, which also makes it more convenient for portability – its dimensions are 6.9 x 25.5 x 8.8 inches and it weighs 9.5 pounds.

Many of the other features are the same between the two air purifiers – the fans, indicator lights, display, UV/VOC light and filter maintenance are exactly the same. It has an energy star certificate as well. It is worth mentioning that the Envion Therapure TPP440 does not have the ionizer feature that the Envion Therapure TPP240 has.

Envion Therapure TPP230 Permanent HEPA Type Air Purifier

Therapure TPP230

Therapure TPP230

The last one of our Therapure air purifier reviews is of the Envion Therapure TPP230 Permanent HEPA Type Air Purifier.

This air purifier is different compared to other two, in terms of price, power and outer design. Both the price and the power capabilities are lower, which makes sense.

The listing price is about $130. The clean air delivery rate is 130 for smoke, 130 for dust and 140 for pollen. The outer shell is completely white. It does not have a built-in handle.

The additional features of the Envion Therapure TPP230 are the same as for the other two air purifiers, thus this one also has a hemispheric design, UV/VOC light, fans, indicators and filters which operate in the same way. It does not have the air ionizing feature.

Based on all of the above, we can conclude that all three devices in these Therapure air purifier reviews have a lot of common features. This means that if you like these basic features, you further have the choice of how much you want to pay and how much air filtering power you need. In that regard, Therapure offers a lot of opportunity to choose exactly what you want. However, even if you do not like the basic features, like the HEPA style filter, there are some Therapure purifiers which do not utilize such features. Thus, we would conclude by saying that this brand of air purifiers offers a lot of choice and units with great price-to-quality ratio. So, we would absolutely recommend them!
